Our story

From the very beginning, the Koutou family embraced sustainable farming practices, understanding the importance of preserving the environment for future generations. They believed that the land was not just theirs to use, but a gift to be nurtured and protected.

The Art of Cacao Farming
At Koutou Farm, cacao farming is more than just a profession—it’s a way of life. Every step of the process, from planting and harvesting to fermenting and drying the beans, is done with care and precision. The farm grows a unique blend of 60% Criollo and 40% Trinitario cacao beans, prized for their rich, complex flavors and exceptional quality.

The Koutou family’s expertise has been passed down through generations, with each family member learning the art of cacao farming from a young age. Their commitment to excellence and tradition has earned Koutou Farm a reputation for producing some of the finest cacao beans in the region.

Sustainability and Community Impact
Koutou Farm is not just a place where cacao beans are grown—it’s a hub of community and innovation. The Koutou family works directly with neighboring farmers, sharing knowledge and resources to improve farming practices across the region. By cutting out the middleman and establishing direct relationships with buyers, the farm ensures that farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work.

This unique, vertically integrated model has allowed Koutou Farm to disrupt the traditional supply chain while prioritizing the welfare of its farmers and the environment. The farm’s commitment to sustainability extends to every aspect of its operations, from using organic farming methods to promoting biodiversity on the land.

A Global Vision
Today, the cacao beans from Koutou Farm are used in premium chocolate products around the world, including those crafted by EmkaoFoods Inc., a company founded by a member of the Koutou family. EmkaoFoods continues the legacy of transparency, sustainability, and quality that began at Koutou Farm, redefining the chocolate industry one bean at a time.

A Story of Resilience and Hope
The story of Koutou Farm is one of resilience, hope, and a deep connection to the land. It’s a testament to the power of tradition and innovation working hand in hand to create something truly extraordinary. As the Koutou family looks to the future, they remain committed to their mission of producing the finest cacao beans while uplifting their community and protecting the environment.

Through generations of hard work and unwavering dedication, Koutou Farm has grown from a humble family venture into a symbol of excellence and sustainability in the cacao industry.

The iKareKao Campaign

The Ikarekao Campaign was born during one of the most challenging times in recent history: the global pandemic of 2020. It all began with a simple yet powerful idea—to support our heroes on the frontlines. As the world grappled with uncertainty, EmkaoFoods launched the campaign to show gratitude and solidarity by donating chocolate hampers to nurses and hospitals.

The initiative quickly gained momentum, resonating with communities who were eager to contribute. Through the campaign, funds were raised to provide additional support to healthcare workers and hospitals, ensuring they had the resources they needed during those trying times. The success of the campaign inspired us to expand the effort, collaborating with other local businesses to create hampers filled with sweet treats. Together, we celebrated the everyday heroes in our communities, from healthcare workers to essential service providers, who worked tirelessly to keep us safe.

Evolving to Support Smallholder Farmers
As the pandemic’s effects rippled across the globe, another group of heroes emerged—smallholder farmers, the backbone of the food supply chain. These farmers, including those who supply EmkaoFoods with premium cacao beans, faced unprecedented challenges. From shortages and climate change to rising tariffs, their livelihoods were under threat.

Recognizing their struggles, the Ikarekao Campaign evolved to focus on supporting these farmers who have been most impacted. By working directly with smallholder farmers, we’ve been able to provide fair compensation, resources, and tools to help them thrive despite the challenges. The campaign now embodies a broader mission: to uplift those who make it possible for us to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, like chocolate, while fostering sustainability and resilience in the cacao industry.

A Legacy of Community and Impact
The Ikarekao Campaign has grown from a heartfelt response to a global crisis into a movement that champions the values of gratitude, sustainability, and community. Today, it continues to bring people together—local businesses, communities, and farmers—united by the belief that we are stronger together.

Through Ikarekao, we are not just giving back; we are building a future where everyone in the supply chain, from farm to table, is valued and supported. It is a testament to the power of compassion and collaboration, proving that even in the face of adversity, we can create lasting change.

Our mission

The Ikarekao Campaign was launched in 2020 with the mission of supporting small cocoa farmers in Cameroon and empowering them to thrive in a sustainable and equitable ecosystem. Rooted in the values of transparency, sustainability, and community impact, the campaign aims to provide farmers with fair compensation, access to resources, and the tools needed to improve their livelihoods while preserving the environment.

The campaign was born out of the need to address the challenges faced by smallholder farmers, such as limited market access, unfair trade practices, and a lack of resources to enhance productivity. By cutting out the middleman and fostering direct relationships between farmers and buyers, Ikarekao ensures that farmers receive their fair share of the value chain.

Through this initiative, we strive to not only uplift farming communities but also redefine the chocolate industry by promoting traceability and ethical sourcing. The Ikarekao Campaign is a testament to our commitment to creating a brighter future for cocoa farmers and chocolate lovers around the world.
